The Wednesday after Christmas we loaded up and began the trek up North. Judging from past experiences and taking holiday travel into account, we knew we wanted to be at the airport 2 hours before take-off. That meant getting to the airport at 6:30!! Which meant David and I getting up at 5:00, and the kids getting up at 5:45 - Boo! But, our early rising and preparation paid off, because we sailed through security with no problems and made it to our gate in plenty of time...more time than we even imagined, because our flight take-off was delayed 45 minutes!! That's always the way it goes. If we had been running late, it would have taken off early :)
Anyway, both kids did fantastic on the plane. Addy pretty much slept, and Grayson just played. He is a way better plane traveler than car traveler because he can actually get up and move around and is not strapped into a seat. Unfortunately mom and dad were not facing the same ease in their travels to the airport to pick us up. They left that morning in a freezing rain storm with roads like ice skating rinks. At one point a car was tailgating my dad wanting him to go faster, and then the next minute that car spun off and did a 180 in the middle of the road! Even with all that, we all ended up making it safe and sound to each other to let the celebrating begin!
We got to stay a whole week this year, so it felt like a very relaxing trip! We got to visit with some of our favorite friends from home and spend plenty of time playing and of course spent too much time enjoying home cooking. Unfortunately for us there we NO SNOW this year!! The first year that Grayson could have actually enjoyed sledding. Maybe next year. It was great as far as Montanans were concerned, because it has been an extremely mild winter. Grayson got to go out with Pa everyday and feed the cows and horses and ride on Pa's big tractor. He LOVED it! He's a little farmer boy. Of course there were also hours and hours spent playing Play-do inside too. I think Nanny and Pa's Play-do table is his single favorite toy/activity of his life!! And that's not an exaggeration! We should probably get one for our house. The only downside of the trip was that Grayson got a fever the last night and got off the plane with a double ear infection. We are just glad he was healthy the rest of the trip!
It was a fabulous trip, and we only wish we lived closer together so we could see each other more often!
Catching a few ZZZZ's in Mommy's lap on the plane.
