When we got married on 11/11/06, we realized that our 5 year anniversary would be on 11/11/11! How cool is that?! We had lofty plans of taking a second honeymoon... Fast forward 5 years and 2 kids later, and let's just say we kind of laugh at ourselves! The past several years we have celebrated by spending Thanksgiving night at the downtown Louisville Marriott, but this year the whole family is spending Thanksgiving in Richmond. We thought we'd try a different family outing for our celebration, and decided on a night at the Marriott Shoals Hotel in Florence, AL. This sounded good because we had a free night, and it was only a couple hours away, and some friends had promoted the trails and things to do there. Well, besides being a beautiful property right on a dam, it pretty much turned out to be a dud. There weren't actually any activities close by, and it took twice as long to get there and back with kiddos. We ended up spending 8 hours in the car to play on the playground behind the hotel. I think it would be more fun in the summer with older kids so you could at least play in the nice swimming pool. Lesson learned!
